My name is Dustyn Chetek and hockey is a passion of mine that has influenced who I am today. Hockey has taught me so many important lessons in life: to not be selfish, to be a team player, and that you need to gel as a team in order to have success. I have always been a competitive, focused person so competitive hockey has been a perfect fit for me. One of the obstacles I am most proud of for overcoming was by making the Alberta Cup. Hundreds of players tried out, and I was one of only very few of them who had not been drafted by the WHL to make it on an Alberta Cup team. I not only played for Team Edmonton Yellow in the Alberta Cup, but I also received a Player of the Game Award, was in the top 10 scorers for the entire tournament, and was invited to attend the Alberta Top 80 Camp (which I did).
I believe in never giving up and being relentless, and a favorite saying of mine is “Every setback paves the way for a comeback”. I would describe myself as a two-way forward with good speed that can help in the defensive end, with a hard shot, good puck movement, good hockey sense and determination. To me, it’s important to not only be a good teammate, but to also be a good person and to give back to the community you play in as well. My goals for the future would be to play Jr A (AJHL/BCHL/SJHL/USHL) (or Major Junior WHL), NCAA and eventually pro. My academic goal is to attend University and I currently have my sights set on enrolling in a Business Degree Program.
