My collegiate goals and aspirations are to continue playing the sport that I love for as long as I can while continuing my studies. I would like to either major in pre-law or neuroscience. My parents were the first in their families to go to college and I hope to continue in their footsteps.
I would be an excellent candidate for your team because I am a hardworker and a dedicated teammate. I am coachable and try my best to be better each time I step on the ice.
What makes me different from other recruits in terms of character is that I have been brought up to support students who have special needs. My grandmother was a 43-year veteran special education teacher and we helped with her Special Olympics team. I am currently a peer helper at my high school working with students who are nonverbal to meet their physical education IEP goals. I am honest, trustworthy, and do not drink, do drugs or smoke. I am active in my church and volunteer in my community as much as I can. I especially like to help the younger hockey players at their practices to give back to the next generation of hockey players.
As for what makes me different in athletics, I played defense on my ice hockey travel and high school teams for 10 years and last year my coach asked me to move to wing. It was a challenge to change positions after a decade but if he had the faith in me to be in this position, then I knew I could excel. I ended my first year at forward with 36 points. In hindsight, I am thankful for the opportunity to grow in my skillset and versatility as a hockey player. I now play forward and defenseman for the reigning National Champion 18U Arizona Bobcats. What makes me different academically is that despite all the travel I do for ice hockey, I am still able to maintain a 3.4 GPA and am taking dual enrollment classes to earn credits towards my bachelors degree while I am still in high school.
I am grateful for any opportunity to continue growing and excelling in ice hockey.
