I am an extremely passionate person. I pride myself on being a very hard working player and student. My interests for college include the field of Psychology and/or Business. I am very socially minded and love working with people. My teachers, coaches and school administrators always remark on my friendly, polite nature and that I always have a smile on my face. I am currently in grade 11, but am taking a few grade 12 courses. I am currently on the Honor Roll for my latest report card.
I was very fortunate to be one of the few 16 years to make the KIJHL league, playing with boys, mostly between 17 & 20. I received lots of ice time and contributed each time my skates hit the ice. Regardless of the outcome of a game, I continued to give it my best. After every game, parents and coaches always remark on my effort.
This past year, I started the season playing back with my junior team. There were significant changes, and I decided that it would be best for me to return and have a successful year at home. The Tier I team (top team), welcomed me back, and together we won our division, moving on to the Provincial Championships. Our team was very strong in the championship, however, we lost in the final game, taking home the silver.
I am more determined than ever to continue playing hockey at a high level. I have been identified by several Junior A teams in BC, (and Ontario) to come out to their prospect camps. The feedback in my latest prospects camp was that I was opening a lot of coach’s eyes. I will continue to train hard over the off season and show my best in 2016/17. Just recently, (spring 2016) I attended a Showcase camp. During this camp, I approached by many team, and have since been personally approached (and via email) by over 10 teams, asking me to either commit or come to their main camp.
Here a few of their comments in regards to my play (from Junior A Scouts/Coaches):
"Our organization recently attended the Global Hockey Showcase in Langley, BC and we really took an interest in watching you play."
"Thomas we were so impressed with your performance this weekend. You have certainly open a lot of coach’s eyes."
"Watching you at the showcase, you were a workhorse of a player. Every shift you were hard on the puck no matter what area it was in on the ice. You battled hard in the corners and really used your strength so that you were able to come out of the corner with the puck and set up a nice play. When you were in the offensive zone without the puck, you had a nice net presence and you followed the puck enough to capitalize on rebound opportunities."
"You have a lot of grit and determination - and certainly work hard shift after shift. You are exactly the type of player that our team is looking for."
Comments From Jr B teams at Showcase
"You probably have a few teams looking your way, and you may be poised to play Jr A hockey, but please consider us as your backup plan."
"What can we do to have you commit today?"
Coaches throughout my playing years have always told me that I am the "digger in the corners", and the kid who doesn't give up. While I am not the biggest kid on the ice, I am one of the fastest. While I wasn't drafted in my Bantam year, I have continued to work on my skills - and continue to grow my determination. I truly love the game of hockey and want to make sure that I continue to play at the highest level possible, including at college. I look forward to this next step.
