Personal Statement

My name is Luke Kim and I currently play defence for the U18AAA Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (PCHA) prep team in Victoria, BC, Canada.  My team competes in the CSSHL (Canadian Sports School Hockey League).  The league is considered by many to be the best in western Canada, and my team is one of the strongest in the league.  My team has numerous players who have been drafted to the WHL, have already committed to the BCHL, and even one who has committed to an NCAA Div 1 team.  I was asked to play for PCHA this year by my coach, Mark Kosick, after playing a season in the Junior Prospects Hockey League (JPHL) last year as captain of the Island Wild U18AAA team.  Coach Kosick, who is a top developer of talent and who has moved many pIayers on to the next level, recommended that I join his team in order to have the best chance of moving on to the next level.   Besides my on-ice potential, I believe that Coach Kosick has recruited me because of my work ethic and character.  I try to be an example to my teammates and try to represent my organization well, both on and off the ice.

As a result of playing for the Island Wild last season, I was fortunate enough to practice on a number of occasions with the Cowichan Capitals BCHL team.  This season, I am affiliating with the Peninsula Panthers of the VIJHL (Junior A Tier II) and have already played a few games with them.

Academically, I am currently in my second year of part-time classical music studies at the University of Victoria.  I am maintaining part-time status so that I can continue to be eligible for the NCAA should that avenue open up for me.  Another fun fact is that I am a provincial award-winning classically-trained cellist, who has also competed at the national level.  I have performed as a soloist in numerous concerts and have played for charities, non-profit organizations, and homeless shelters. Whatever I do, I strive to achieve excellence and to serve others. However, my passion and aspiration is in hockey, and I hope to make it to the next level.

If you are looking for a humble, resilient, never-giving-up, team-oriented player, I hope that you will consider me for your program.

Sincerely,

Luke S. Kim
