I have had my sights set on playing college hockey ever since I was playing as a Peewee Tier 1 defensemen. I remember seeing the older guys playing junior hockey that came to my school, showing us their leadership and courage. This really made me want to push myself to get to college and do the same thing myself. My love for hockey is something I want to continue as I pursue a degree.
I feel that playing AAA hockey at Pursuit of Excellence has prepared me to balance the workload of academics with practice, games, and travel. It pushes me having two workouts and a practice a day and missing school to go on trips. Through all of this I have maintained strong grades through my high school years at Dover Bay and George Elliot Secondary schools and have begun to work on my SATS. I am now extra organized and able to manage my time wisely. Many of my coaches and teachers have commented on my work ethic, leadership and politeness. Seeing my teammates and friends excel is what makes me excited and that is what differs me from others. It's great winning, but there are times you encounter a faster, better, stronger team. The thing you should take from it is if you played your best, left it all out there and did what you could for your team. Positivity, respect and good attitude is key to gaining coaches and teammates respect and making it to the next level.
I have experienced a few undefeated seasons and great tournaments but by far my biggest and best experience was being able to travel across the USA with my team to play AAA hockey and learn new ways of hockey, new cultures and get even stronger and better. I liked that feeling and now i am ready to fight for it and find it in bigger and better ways.
All of these experiences have confirmed that I am right where I want to be. As I continue to pursue my academic and athletic goals I am committed to being a strong contributor and leader to my team and my coaches. I hope that when I leave wherever I go, I go out as an alumni who was known for their respect, helpfulness, leadership and work ethic!
