I have been playing ice hockey since the fourth grade and it has truly become a passion of mine. I've been a fan of the Sharks for as long as I can remember, and for my tenth birthday my dad suggested taking up hockey lessons to enhance my experience. I was thrilled, and I began to play at my local rink. To this day, hockey has taught me the values of hard work, determination, and taking accountability for my actions. I've learned to manage my time between school, sports, family, and friends and maintain a solid work ethic throughout. Probably the most significant event in my hockey career and the greatest obstacle I've had to overcome was a dislocated shoulder injury that occurred two years ago and sidelined me for six months. I had to undergo surgery and months of rehab to get back to my previous level of play, and the one thing that motivated me was my desire to get back to the game I love, no matter how hard I had to work. This setback showed me that hard work, discipline, and determination are essential qualities to possess if you want to be successful, and overcoming this injury was an integral part of learning these characteristics in life.
I am looking for a college that offers strong academics along with solid hockey program so that I can get a high-quality education and continue playing the sport I love. In the meantime, I hope to maintain my 4.0 in high school and strive to finish with something in the region of 4.4 by the time I graduate. On any team, I will always seek to be a leader and guide my teammates to be successful both on and off the ice. I not only want to better myself as a person, but I try to make those around me better as well.
