Personal Statement
Although, I have been in sports since an early age, I did not start playing hockey until the age of 12. My early years involved playing soccer. But since the first time I played ice hockey goalie at the age of 12, I knew this was my dream. Since that first time, I have gone from barely being able to skate to starting goalie of a single A hockey club at the U14 age group. I have put in a lot of hard work to get to this level and I am ready to put even more work to becoming a college goalie. Playing goalie in college will not only allow me to get a degree, but also further my hockey dreams.
I am a team leader by example. I strive to be the hardest worker on the team and I treat all my teammates and coaches with respect. All the coaches that know me will vouch for how hard I work to perfect my craft. I am on the ice 3 times a week for skate and shoot sessions. In addition, I fill in a goalie for multiple player clinics each week in which the players I am facing are older and higher levels of hockey. I am always the first one on the ice practice and last one to leave. I am on the ice for a minimum of 15 hours a week, with practices, and training. Even though practices are often over an hour to 90 minutes away, I have made 95% of all practices. In addition to on ice training, I compliment my ice time with many hours of off-ice work. This includes using virtual reality goaltending using sense arena, gymnastics and off-ice workouts.
In the classroom, I work hard and maintain a high GPA. I have also used what I have learned in the classroom to accomplish many things. I have started my own non-profit company to help goalies starting out. I have also learned crafts such as cooking and remodeling kitchens and bathrooms. In addition, in my spare time, I volunteer as a goalie coach for a local U8 team.
I want to attend a college that pushes me to my full potential both on the ice and off the ice. I know with my drive and thirst for greatness, I will be a great asset to the college I attend. I am open to all options and want to ultimately find the right college match at the highest level of competition possible with a great education.
