Personal Statement

I've always set my goals high because I know through dedication and hard work, it'll pay off and I will be able to achieve them. I'm looking for a school that will help me grow as a person in the real world, but also challenge and develop me into a better player on the ice. I am hoping to have professors and coaches that share this vision with me because enough dedication and work can amount to anything in life. Although I first learned to skate when I was around 6 years old, I never played on an official club team until I was 9. Since most kids around my age started skating and playing for teams at a younger age, I had to work harder in order to play for those teams. Seeing myself develop into a better player and making teams I originally never thought I could play for was an amazing feeling, which sprouted from working hard and being dedicated. My name is Kennelly Clinton and I am a 6'3 right handed defensemen and apart of the class of 2025. Although I am a defensemen, I have experience and knowledge as of how to play center, and right or left winger. On offense, I am working to create and maximize time and space for myself and teammates, as well as being able to handle pressure with the puck, and being able to create and finish scoring opportunities. On defense, I am working to take time and space away from opposing players while preventing and limiting shots from being taken, I am also working to initiate breakouts and generate offense for me and my team. Overall, I want to perfect my craft and fundamentals such as skating, stickhandling, shooting, edgework, passing etc., but also maximize my IQ for the game, separating me from other players. Thus far, in my education I have received a 3.4 GPA throughout high school. My current plan is to attend Westmont High School and graduate my senior year there and afterwards, attend a four-year university where I will continue my studies along with my athletic hockey career.
