Personal Statement
Dear Coach:
My name is Preston Fava and I wish to play my very best hockey at a top-level college while earning my degree.
I am a 10th grader currently attending Archbishop Williams H.S. in Braintree, MA that has a Division 1 hockey program and is a member of the Catholic Central League. I am a member of the Varsity hockey team (#19) and Boston Junior Terriers (#22) half season 16U Tier 1 AAA club team. The half season just wrapped and we finished #1 in the state. I played 16 games at Forward and 10 games at Defense. While Defense is not my primary position, my quickness and skating ability allowed me to cover as needed. I also felt it allowed me to develop my stickhandling and decision making abilities in the D-Zone under pressure which should translate well to the High School season. I finished my 10th grade 1st quarter strong which includes an Honors and Accelerated level class schedule. I am an honor roll student. In addition, I volunteer as an Assistant Coach with the The Great Blizzards hockey program which supports and encourages inclusion in hockey for players of all abilities. The organization's motto is 'No Hockey Player Left Behind'.
Ice hockey is one of my favorite sports. I have been playing hockey since I was five years old. It requires exceptional ice skating skills, terrific stick handling, and a vast amount of awareness and hockey knowledge. I’ve acquired many of these skills with good coaching, listening to instructions, and constant practice. I’ve spent many hours performing practice drills, building-up my body strength, stamina, skating speed, and endurance. I work hard, never whine or complain, never miss a practice, and bond well with other teammates always putting the success of our team above all. I will play where needed to help out the team. I can play both offense and defense. I split last season at left wing and right wing. I play a 200 foot game and don't shy away from going into the corners to dig out a puck or fighting for position in front of the net. I look to build off a successful freshman season, continue to learn/develop from the continuous feedback received, and make an impact every shift. I'm working hard this summer to improve my strength, hands and hockey IQ to be ready for the fall season.
In addition to hockey, I also play lacrosse. I find playing more that one sports helps me to become a more effective player overall. I've played for Archies' Varsity Lacrosse team the past two years as a starter at Close D and LSM.
I would like to discuss the possibility of being part of your hockey team when I graduate in 2025.
Respectfully,
Preston Fava
