My name is Brandon Pirtle and I am currently a senior at
Davison High School in Davison Michigan. I have played for the varsity hockey
team for all four of my high school years under the coaching of Doug Towler.
My hockey career started many years before that though. I
first stepped on the ice at the age of six and fell in love with the ice and
the game of hockey. I started playing travel hockey and played for many years
winning tournaments and learning the ins and outs of the game. I was also known
for being the smallest kid but the hardest working. No one ever out works me.
While playing at Iceland in the Eastern Michigan Hockey Association, I received
the Jack Vivian award for most valuable player. Two years later, I received the
Don Morrow Award for most valuable player as well. I never had any problems
with any of my coaches. Not once has a coach told me I need to work harder. I
leave everything on the ice. I work hard every shift, every practice and every
sprint. I may make a mistake but I also made those mistakes giving everything I
have, and once I make a mistake I try even harder to not let that happen again.
That is how I made varsity as a freshman. At that time, I wasn’t the biggest or
even the fastest, but I out worked everyone there. From then on I got better
and better every day. Each year my roll on the team got a little larger. Coach
started to rely on me to win face-offs. That is the kind of player I am. I care
more about keeping the puck out of my net than scoring the flashy goal. If the
other team doesn’t score, we can’t lose. I am able to see plays develop and
have never had a problem passing for a better opportunity to score versus
shooting a lower percentage shot. I’ve always had more assist than goals.
After my sophomore year I was elected honorable mention all
conference. My junior year I played a large roll on our team. I wasn’t captain,
that role is reserved for seniors, but I was a major part of the team. After the
season, I received First team all conference. Coming into my senior year, I
know I am being looked at to lead the team and really step up, and I am ready
for that. I want to be the go to guy. I want the puck on my stick at the end of
a close game. But most importantly, I want to lead our team to success and make
everyone around me better.
I have always wanted to play college hockey. It has been a
dream of mine for many years. I haven’t really thought about where I want to
play, I just want to play the game I love at the highest level I can. I want to
go to school for either forensic science or athletic training. I haven’t really
decided which one yet. I also haven’t chosen a college I want to attend. I
wouldn’t mind going to either a small or big college. I just want to play the
game I love at the highest level I can and receive a good education at the same
time.
