~~Let me introduce myself; my name is Carlton Helwig I am a junior and a second year Varsity hockey player at Divine Child high school in Dearborn Heights Michigan. I am a 6’1” 190 lb. forward that is looking to play at the next level. I am a team leader, I lead by example while also encouraging my teammates. I have been told many times by my coaches that I am one of the hardest working players on and off the ice. I have dedicated many summers to skating clinics and off ice training to help get the edge I need to be the best. I know that with my experiences that I have gained so far that I would fit in to the competitive hockey program.
I learned to skate when I was 3 and loved every minute of it. My parents decided to enroll me in the Timbits program at our local hockey rink and from that moment on my goal was to make it to a much higher level of hockey; juniors and to the collegiate level. I always dreamed of being on the USA Olympic hockey team. I began playing at the AA travel level at 7 and continued at that level until 13. Playing at the Junior and Collegiate level I know would help to achieve a lifelong goal. I know that playing in college is a once in a lifetime opportunity that could change my whole life.
In the classroom, I study hard and strive to keep a high GPA. I also believe that a strong work ethic is important on and off the ice as well as giving back to my community and school through volunteering. Any chance there is to volunteer and make the community/school a better place is important to me as an individual.
I want to attend a college where I can push myself in the classroom and on the ice. I am open to all options and want to ultimately find the right college match at the highest level of competition possible. I hope to become a great role model to all my peers and make my parents proud.
