Personal Statement
When faced with adversity, I am not one to hide away and wait for it to pass. Being from Flint, MI where there are not a lot of opportunities for someone like me to play hockey, I have been met with adversity from the start.
I started playing hockey at an older age than most my peers. My chance to play hockey was first realized through the Flint Inner City Hockey Program. It was through this program that my love for the sport grew. I got the chance to play my first real season on the house squirt level. I have played other sports like soccer but nothing else compares to the feel of when I’m on the ice.
I’ve worked very hard and worked my way through the house and travel levels of play.
I strive to bring the same effort into the classroom. I know that without academics, that there is no hockey or much else. I truly understand the word student-athlete.
My goal is to play hockey at a high level, possible even division I while getting my education. I would love to obtain a scholarship. I have the qualities of being a leader and I am also coachable as well. Coming from where I come from, I understand that nothing will come to me easily. I have to work for it, and that is what I will continue to do.
