Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Jacob Boni. As long as I can remember, I have loved all aspects of the game of hockey, including the skill level, athletic ability and intelligence required to play, and the friendships that are made while playing.
I have been playing hockey for about a decade and have learned different aspects of the game from all of my coaches and mentors over the years. I am a very skilled player, who puts the team and game first, and have always had a burning desire to continuously improve, keep pushing, and never give up. I have played in countless tournaments and skills competitions over the years and have either won them or have come very close to winning them. I have always considered myself a responsible and competitive player, who cares deeply about his teammates and respects his coaches. As I developed, I learned how to decide when to shoot or pass the puck, and to give 100% effort on every shift, whether that be on offense or defense. In my younger years, I primarily played winger, but in recent years my coaches saw the value in my level of dedication and elected to have me play center, where I have been excelling by using my hand-eye coordination to win face-offs, my speed to out hustle my opponents and my hockey sense to outsmart the competition. This past season (2020-21), my freshman year, I ended up earning a spot on the top line of my High School Varsity team.
Throughout all of my years of school, I always earned high grades – I am currently maintaining a 3.9 GPA. In college, I plan to study Civil or Mechanical Engineering because I have always been fond of math/science, problem solving, and building things.
Overall, I believe I have a positive impact on the people around me, whether they are classmates, teammates or family members. I am always eager to help others succeed and do whatever it takes to be successful myself. Soon, I hope to be able to accomplish the goal that I have worked extremely hard for, to play college hockey.
