Kellen McGarry '23 Recruiting Profile

I began playing hockey when I was six, my elementary school had an after school skate program that I attended.  While on the ice I saw some hockey players getting ready for practice, as they confidently exited the locker room onto the ice I knew I wanted to play hockey and more importantly I wanted to play hockey at the highest level possible.  At six I set this goal, a goal I have been working towards throughout elementary, middle school, and now in high school.  I plan on doing everything I can to make that into a reality.

When thinking how best to describe my strengths to someone, a few key components come to mind: hard worker, self driven, excels academically, and, easy going.  To elaborate, I feel that my biggest strength is the drive to excel in everything I do, this drive  comes from within me not from anyone else.   I am not going to do something to just be a part of it- I want to be the best and if I am not the best I work hard to get there.  

I think this motto has served me well both academically and athletically.  I am in both accelerated and honors classes at one of the  top high school institutions in Northeast Ohio.  I have always played up in hockey, either in birth year or on the top team.  

It is my hope that when you watch my videos and look at my accomplishments you see; the motor, the drive from within.  I am very  coach able as well as intelligent.  This alone, sets me apart from other hockey recruits that are just good athletes- not only am I a great athlete but I also have excellent vision and  hockey awareness on the ice.
