My name is Daniel McClish and, at age 6, I met my older brother’s hockey coach, Coach Mike Gabriel, who wanted to know why I wasn’t playing hockey. So, the next day I attended my first practice on an inhouse league followed by joining the mite team and then the squirt team. During the second year of the squirt team, my parents realized that I was not challenged in the current league so, prior to the start of Peewee, I was moved to a larger organization. When I tried out for Peewee no one really knew me and I was placed on the 3rd Peewee team, a B team. After 30+ goals as a defensive player, the organization learned my name and the next season I was placed on the AA Peewee team. Today I am a freshman about to begin my high school hockey experience as a Walsh Jesuit High School Warrior. How did I get here, I made it here because of my faith in my choice of church, choice of school, and the influence of great coaches. I have a high GPA and I hope to attend a challenging college. The greatest obstacle I have ever had to overcome was showing a new hockey program that I had what it takes to move from a B team to the AA team. As a hockey player I am fast on my feet, a motivational speaker in the locker room, and a leader on the ice and bench. I start every game with a locker room prayer and will not leave the ice until I shake the hand of all players, coaches, and officials. I understand the limits of my body and as a two-sport athlete (hockey and baseball) I recognize that I need to step up to the plate just as much as other athletes.
