Hockey Overview:
Over my two years of Junior A I have been used as a Top 6 Two-way defenseman, on top of that especially at the end of my second season with the North York Renegades I was relied on heavily as a power forward on the third line creating energy and adding depth scoring and when called upon in games I would transition to our second penalty kill d-pairing in order to add maturity to the back end of our special teams. Down the stretch heading into the playoffs I was just under a goal per game and for this I was awarded my teams "Most Improved Player" Award. Now having had two years of Tier II Junior A I am ready to take my game to the next level.
Play Style:
Having played both forward and defence I have a thorough understanding of the requirements of both and how to play defensively as a forward as well as offensively as a defenseman depending on game situations. Since I was young I've been a physical hard working player no matter what position or role. Last season I was often called upon after my team conceded goals to bring energy back to our bench and fire the team up with a big hit or big play. Former coaches and teammates have described me as "the hardest working player on the ice" I actually started Rep Hockey for a couple of years as a Goalie and as a result of this diverse hockey background, I take great care of my goalie, read the offense real well and can also lead the rush effectively when there’s the right opportunity.
Academics
I completed high school in Toronto with an 81% average grade equivalent to a 3.1 GPA this came after several years of difficulty with bullying especially through middle school and early junior high. Despite all of that I am very proud of the marks I was able to achieve which at one time seemed impossible. With a passion for writing, the press and the media, naturally Communications and/or Journalism have become my chosen academic fields at university. Combining the discipline of sports with the studies I really enjoy will provide a great lifestyle, provides a platform for a great career.
Extra Curricular:
Despite my heavy focus on hockey and academics I managed to work in extra curricular;
-I played both varsity hockey as well as varsity soccer as a goalkeeper.
-In grade 12 I starred in my schools play.
-For 5 straight semesters I was asked by teachers to be a representative for my schools course fair
My Past Year:
Over the past year I graduated high school with and 81% average (3.1 GPA). This got me admitted to both of my top choice universities. I decided to reserve a spot for the fall of 2018 however I am re-evaluating the option due to my performances last season and the general interest of other teams and schools. I returned for another season with the North York Renegades, transitioning from Defenseman to full time forward was a bit of a process but it paid off in the end leading to my best ever season. I have spent my gap year training and working at Sportchek which is a major Canadian sporting goods store. As a person I have grown and matured a lot and that has translated to my performances on the ice as well.
