My name is Rui Dong, and I am a 14-year-old hockey player born in March 2010. Although I started playing competitive hockey later than most players at the age of 11, I have always had a deep love for the game and an unwavering commitment to improving my skills.
The journey hasn't been easy, but I embraced every challenge head-on. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I dedicated myself to catching up with my peers, focusing intensely on developing my skating, stick handling and shooting in my basement and outdoor ponds. My hard work paid off as I progressed rapidly through competitive levels. In 2021, I played on the Ottawa Sting U12 Rep A team, followed by an incredible season in 2022 with the Ottawa Junior 67s U13 AAA team. In 2023, I proudly competed in the first-year contact hockey at the AA level with the Ottawa Sting U14 and finished the season as the league’s second-highest point leader.
I take pride in my strong skating, exceptional puck control, and ability to create plays on the ice. These strengths, combined with my work ethic and determination, drive me to keep improving and striving to be the best player I can be.
Hockey has taught me the importance of perseverance, teamwork, and resilience. As I continue my journey, my goal is to keep growing both as an athlete and as a person, always giving my best effort on and off the ice.
