Hunter Martell '23 Recruiting Profile

My name is Hunter Martell and my overall goal is to play NCAA college hockey at the highest level.   As an individual, I aspire to be the best person and teammate on and off the ice and positive member of society. I’m a right-handed shooting defenseman that can effectively play on either side (Right/Left). I am currently playing fulltime with the Haliburton Huskies of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL - Junior A).  I was drafted by the North Bay Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) during the 2022 U18 Priority Selection Draft - (2^nd Round – 38^th overall). I am extremely dedicated and committed as a player and have competed at the highest level of hockey throughout my hockey career which includes (USHL Combine, (OJHL) Jr A, All-Star & Prospect games, Showcases, etc…).

I am a high school graduate that is continuing my studies at St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School to further my education.  Outside of school I work at Tangle Creek Golf and Country Club as pro shop attendant and at the National Training Rinks teaching kids in the learn to skate program.

I am 6’1 and 185 pounds. I am a defenseman who moves extremely well and has great vision of the ice. I have been told that my hockey sense and awareness is at the next level as well as my shot and release. On and off the ice I bring a sense of leadership to a team. I like to lead by example by showing up to the rink and always giving 110% on the ice and in the gym.

During my off season, I train and practice with a variety of high performance hockey players who also play at the highest level (ie. OHL, Junior A, NCAA – Division 1, NHL). I train both in the gym (strength/conditioning) and with a track and field coach to improve my strength, speed and foot work. I also train with a skills hockey coach and a skating coach for on ice training throughout the year.
