Dear Coach,
I would like to start off my application by thanking for taking the time to review my profile. I'd like to outline why I should be selected as a member of your team. I have leadership skills, teamwork skills and I have done service for my community. Also I have the ability to take criticism when I make a mistake and become a better person.
Leadership is one thing that is natural for me. I like to make decisions for myself, and not let people pressure me in to what they want me to do. When people have tried to peer pressure me into doing things, I've always done what I thought was the right thing to do. People come to me at times when they need to make decisions or need advice, whether it be big or small, and I always help them to the best of my ability. I'm a member of Conneaut Link Crew which helps Freshman adjust to high school through 1:1 mentoring and tutoring.
I think I have a great character. For example I'm always happy and like to have fun, but when work needs to get done, I have the willingness to bear down and complete the task. I don't procrastinate and put things off until the last minute. I'm not a person that gets in trouble. I've never been in serious trouble in my life, and I'd like to keep it that way. I want to be a good person, and I want to be a good influence in my school and community. I want to be a role model for younger kids. I want them to look at me and the way I act, and say "I want to be like him one day". I respect other people and their beliefs. I don't ever put people down because they think differently than me. I believe everyone is unique in their own way, and I respect that.
I have great teamwork skills. I think I have advanced teamwork skills because I've worked in a team environment since I was 3 years old. I've played on sports teams for 15 years or as long as I can remember. My teams have won hundreds of games and 8 league championships. My teams and I've won championships at every level of competition from local baseball and ice hockey, regional ( Western Pennsylvania PAHL (twice), 2017 PIHL Varsity and New York WNYAHL 2015 Bantam AA), 2019 USA Hockey Mid American District Champion to National (2019 USA Hockey Tier 1 National Championships participant, Tier 1 ice hockey 2018 NAPHL U18 Dixon Cup, 2019 & 2018 America's Showcase St. Louis & 2017 NJPHL U16 Frank Black Cup). These awards are a testament because you don't win championships as a team unless you are a team.
I have done many types of service for my community. For example I participated in a car wash to support my teams and help with our church's annual barbecues. I help sell Christmas trees and highway clean-ups for Knights of Columbus. I do chores such as lawn mowing for my elderly neighbors. I attend church and religious education weekly, and I altar serve during mass on my assigned month. I also did chores on a farm last summer and got experience working closely with animals. I help with household chores on a daily basis.
I have developed good time and goal management skills. For example, I must devote around 30 hours each week, nearly every day, from August to June to my sports teams commitments, while maintaining high honors at CASH. An example of achieving goals are my hockey teams have won multiple championships this year. I'm working towards the goal of using hockey to open higher educational opportunities in the aviation field for me. My goal is to obtain opportunity to attend a NCAA division 1 or 3 college on scholarship with men's ice hockey and a program in aviation. My career goal is to become a pilot.
Thank you for considering me for your team.
Sincerely,
Andrew Jacobs
