Although I’ve been playing hockey since I was 6 years old, it was when I was 14 that I encountered a fork in my hockey journey. I always loved hockey and it was a great hobby. But at 14 I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes (like Max Domi and Luke Kunin) and then two weeks later broke my leg playing hockey. I was confronted with a decision: give up hockey or go all-in training to get back to the sport I loved. Up to that point I had played for my local club team with a goal of playing varsity high school hockey. Not being able to get on the ice made me realize how much I truly loved the sport and so I set new goals: to play AAA and move on to juniors, and then college hockey and beyond. I proceeded to train hard, healing and engaging in physical therapy. Then, I tried out for my local AAA team (Madison Capitols) and made the spring squad only 4 months after fracturing my femur. I had to work hard and was humbled playing that spring season at a AAA level. My hard work paid off when I made the winter 15U squad. And I have have continued on with that team till today. I’ve overcome many obstacles to get to where I am today. I never stop working and trying to get better. I’m driven to reach the next level and ready to continuing moving forward in my hockey journey.
