My name is Adam Gallop and I am a Senior at Leo Hayes High School in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. I have been an active member of the Lacrosse community in my city for as long as the program has been in existence. My definition of a student athlete is a person who can successfully compete in high level sports while maintaining high academic success in the classroom. They are role models for others. I feel I would benefit your educational institution in both these areas.
I have had the unique experience to participate in both box and field lacrosse at a high level throughout my playing career. This edge I bring to field lacrosse from my box lacrosse experience sets me apart from other players. More specifically, I have had the opportunity to play on our New Brunswick Provincial box lacrosse team coached by Wayne Burke and Colin Doyle of the Toronto Rock. Skills acquired under the instruction of these coaches as well as my club coaches enabled me to secure a spot on the Junior A NB Mavericks Box Lacrosse team at the age of 14. I was two years underage playing in a league with players up to the age of 21. I am currently a member of that team entering my third season. As the lacrosse world knows, box lacrosse skills give a huge advantage to field lacrosse players.
Field lacrosse is my passion. I am currently the Captain of my Varsity team at Leo Hayes High School. I have played as Captain of Team New Brunswick at National Championships winning MVP awards and helped lead my team to the Maritime Cup Championship. I also play on our Club U18 Team in a summer field lacrosse league.
I believe a student athlete has to be well rounded in athletics. Year round specialization at a young age doesn't allow an athlete to develop skills from other sports. I have played AAA Hockey for the past 6 years and am currently the Assistant Captain for the Leo Hayes High Varsity Hockey team. I have also had the opportunity to play at Provincial, Atlantic and Eastern Canadian Championships in Softball.
I take pride in my academic success as shown by my GPA and report cards. I have been on the Principals Honour Roll for the past 5 years and have received numerous academic awards at my school as well as student athlete awards in my various sports leagues. My life goal is to attend Medical School to become a Heart Surgeon.
I spend countless hours each year dedicating myself to giving back to the game of lacrosse in my community. I have been the head coach of numerous box lacrosse teams. I have instructed many try lacrosse sessions for new players at area schools. I have also contributed a lot of time to the formation of a field lacrosse league in the State of Maine which is 1 hour from my home. I travelled to the US to instruct, coach, hold information sessions and remain in contact with league organizers. This league has grown from 1 team to 4 over the past two years.
As you can see, I would be a great asset to your school, as well as, your lacrosse community. My unique set of skills and academic success is one that I would love to share with your school.
