My name is Ryan Telesca. I am a 6’2” 220lb sophomore at Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle, NY. At Iona I am an honor roll student and a starting defenseman for the Gaels’ Junior Varsity Team.
My goal is to become a successful, challenged and hardworking collegiate student athlete. I feel my lacrosse skills and experience combined with my strength and size as well as my strong academic performance would make me an asset to your school and your lacrosse program.
I have played lacrosse since I was 7 years old - I love the sport! From early on I was nicknamed “Monster D” because I was such a defensive force. This year I gave up other high school sports (football and basketball – despite coaches’ protests) to focus on lacrosse. I voluntarily participate in a year round speed and agility training program through Velocity Sports which is known for its ability to increase lacrosse players’ speed, strength and response time on the field.
I not only dedicate my self to improving my lacrosse skills but I also dedicate myself to being an excellent student. I am in Iona’s “STEP” program (which is the most challenging honors level offered by the school) and I am maintaining a 3.8-3.9 GPA.
In both my athletic and academic life I am extremely competitive. I am my worst critic and am always pushing myself to improve. Academically I am constantly looking for scholastic guidance to further improve my strong GPA. The STEP program has been very challenging but I will not give up and look for the easy way out. Similarly in athletics, I push to improve. Whether it’s at Velocity Sports, at my gym or running in my neighborhood, I spend my free time focused on become a better athlete.
