Personal Statement

In my life I have had to face many adversities.  I was diagnosed at 6 years old with a working memory disorder and was subsequently labeled, learning disabled.  I never let that interfere with the goals that I set out to achieve.  I worked extremely hard and was declassified as a 6th grader. I am currently an AP student with a 3.9 GPA.  My work ethic also translates on the field.  I continue to strive to be the best I can be both on and off the field.  I feel I will add tremendous value to any school that I have the opportunity to play for.

I love lacrosse and have enjoyed playing since the age of ten.  I have played competitively with my high school team as well as travel lacrosse. Additionally, I have played football since I was the age of eight.  Although I have played many sports throughout my career, lacrosse is my passion and what I love which has led me to play travel lacrosse for Trilogy and many showcases. I have also given back to my community and volunteered to train with the youth lacrosse program.

Throughout my career I have been recognized as the defensive MVP for my team as well as named all division.  Additionally, I have worked extremely hard in school to get to where I am.  I put in a lot of effort and time to understand and learn the content presented in class. I am confident that my work ethic will not only help me but my teammates as well. I have been recognized as a player that when it comes to on and off ball defense that I am quick and can get guys into bad spots where they turn over the ball.  Also, it has been noted that I have a knack for taking the ball away and getting the ball to the offensive side of the field. Additionally, my travel lacrosse team noted that I am an easy choice of who they want out on the field running the defense. Furthermore, it has been noted that I am one of the fastest players on my team which as a defender makes me dangerous.  I am able to use my speed to get up the field and foster a fast break.

As a leader and student, my aspiration both on and off the field makes me an excellent candidate to any school and team.

Thank you,

Patrick Tully

  • Strengths On and off ball defense When it comes to on and off ball defense you need to be quick in and out for help while also being able to recover and approach the opposing player to not get beat. You are able to do this very well and we were very pleased with how hard you worked every second you were on the field. When on ball you get guys into bad spots where they turn the ball over and you are also able to be in and on guys hands on the crease when you are the two slide. You have a knack for taking the ball away and getting the ball to the offensive side of the field whether it?s you clearing it yourself or moving it to the goalie/midfielders. This makes it an easy choice of who we want out on the field running the defense. Strength and speed You are one of the fastest kids on the team which as a defender makes you so dangerous. You?re able to guard anyone just because of your speed alone along with your ability to change direction and keep up with the guy you are guarding. Not only do you need to have speed to compete in the game of lacrosse but also strength is something as a defender you need to possess. You are able to catch up to a dodging attackman and turn him back or drive him into a spot that is decreasing their angle. On clears you are able to use your speed to get up the field and either give us a fast break opportunity and get us offensive possessions. Areas to Improve and How to Practice Communicating and limiting top side When in games you will get tired and exhausted at times but being able to communicate to your defense still needs to happen. You are not the only one this happens to but making sure everyone is staying composed and on the same page through communication is the best way to make sure the other team doesn?t go on any runs or that we are stopping a team from making a big play when they need it. Also, when tired we need to work on our angles and to make sure we don?t get beat from X. Make sure you are a step ahead and drive them back or get them decreasing their angle when trying to do an inside roll or question mark. If you can work on these two aspects especially mid game or towards the end of games you will limit those lapses on defense and shut teams down. Also, it's helpful to watch film of yourself and maybe take notes of things you can correct. Comments Have a great rest of the summer and you are going to do big things for Warwick next spring!
