My name is Connor Holland and the first time I was introduced to the game of box lacrosse was when I was 9 years old when former NLL player Chad Fairfoull decided to grow the game of lacrosse in Montreal, Quebec and implemented a competitive program here.
I feel that the game of lacrosse reveals, and in my case, develops true character. The game of lacrosse demands both physical and mental fortitude and in all honesty when I started I did not have much of either. In the last 7 years of playing box lacrosse my overall conditioning and athleticism has improved tremendously, but I am most pleased with the development and improvement of my character as that will serve me well both on and off the lacrosse floor or field. I used to be very shy, quiet and timid and now at the age of 16 I am the leader and role model on every team I play. My proudest moment in lacrosse was being selected captain of my Quebec provincial team to represent my province in the National box lacrosse tournament.
In my age group, I am one of the top box lacrosse players in my province so in seeking out new challenges, the last few winters I have traveled to the United States to participate in various tournaments of both field and box lacrosse where I have competed and excelled against some of the top American prospects my age.
By participating in these tournaments I became very motivated to play field lacrosse in university in the United States as I feel there would be more opportunity for me to compete, learn and improve in lacrosse not to mention receive a world class education.
Being a Canadian box lacrosse player gives me a very advantageous skill set to the game of field lacrosse. Due to the close quarters of box lacrosse, I have acquired a very high level of stick skill, quick hands, shooting accuracy, toughness and physicality to drive the net for a shot.
Upon request, I have a letter of reference from former NLL player Chad Fairfoull, my coach and mentor for the last 3 years.
Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement.
