Varsity A Eight (...I am a 16-year old junior and have been rowing since freshman year (my first year of rowing my boat with 3rd in virtual nationals). I am currently in the international Baccalaureate Program at Berkeley High School (Berkeley, CA), with a 3.8 GPA, and will be taking my SATs in June. I have lived in four different countries, am fluent in Italian, am joining the Berkeley High School newspaper this Fall as the business manager.
When I started rowing I really enjoyed the team aspect of the sport and the community my team had. Berkeley High, has the oldest rowing program in Northern California and I am very proud to be a part of it. Currently I am rowing 2 seat port side in my teams Men Varsity 8+, but I have rowed in every other type of boat. This season my team has been focusing on sweeping, but I also am very good at and enjoy sculling.
My progress this year as been good and I have steadily been dropping my 2k splits. Due to a knee injury earlier in the season my times got held back but I plan to have a sub 6:40 2k by the first 2k test of next season. My team is currently taking my 8+ to Scholastic Nationals in Camden New Jersey, where I hope to bring home a medal.
I would very much like to row in a college with strong academics and a competitive rowing program. I would like to further my rowing career as a collegiate lightweight and hope to row all through college.
