Rowing is my sport. For years I went between soccer, rugby, cricket, field hockey, and even taekwondo, and I never wanted to commit to any of them long-term. When I was introduced to rowing in middle school, everything changed.
For the first time I felt I could legitimately be competitive in a sport. Rowing brought out a sense of confidence in me I never knew I had, which - when I started rowing competitively two years ago - allowed me to win countless medals. The constant upward battle of rowing has hardened my mentality and shown me that performance is a pure reflection of the work you put in, nothing else. Rowing has given me an opportunity to act as a leader among my peers as a captain of the boys varsity team, and build a group of like-minded individuals who will push each other to the finish line. Within that, I've learned to never let anyone work harder than I do, no matter the results. Most importantly however, it's bettered every other aspect of my life. Whether it be academics, personal health, social life, or my job, rowing has proven itself more than a sport to me. It's allowed me to excel in school and other extracurriculars, provided me a work ethic like no other, and given me some of the best friends I've ever had.
Wherever I'm wanted, I hope to carry this lifestyle into college and beyond. Yes, academics come first - with my passion for environmental and political science being paramount - , but as long as there's water and I can sit in the boat, I hope to row at the most competitive level possible, and give it my fullest effort.
