During the first semester of freshman year, I didn’t have many friends, maybe one or two. Rowing came into my life in second semester and now at the end of senior year practically the whole team is my friend, I’ve met people though rowing that will be friends for life. Through this experience, I want other young children to experience the hard work and determination that I had to have to succeed in rowing because I feel like it has set me up for the future, informing my morals and decisions. Rowing has kept me out of trouble with both the commitment as well as the team atmosphere of being held accountable for my performance by my peers and coaches. When I leave for college I want to leave the team with a lasting impression of a successful captain and leader, a hard worker and a good friend. Rowing has been such a rock for me throughout my high school career and I don't see going though college without it. College rowing is a different caliber of training and requires an elevated sense of toughness that a lot of other people are not willing to give, but I am. Passion and hard work are the reasons that I row and are the reasons I want to continue to row though my adult life.
