After picking up Taekwondo in 2009, I know athletics would forever be an important part of my life. Growing up, I spent hours upon hours on tennis and basketball courts, soccer and football fields, running and mountain biking trails, but never really found that “thing” to keep me going. As more time passed, more people found their “thing”, and I began to worry that I wasn’t as athletic as I thought. In the summer of 2021 I decided to give rowing a shot, and the promises of “love at first stroke” were quickly dismantled by the muggy midwest sun and blistered hands that made up the first half of my novice season. It wasn’t until my first regatta that something changed; after 5,000 meters of pain, I crossed the finish line beaming ear to ear. I found my thing, and since then have put all my effort into giving the sport my all, as well as helping others find out if rowing is their thing.
