My name is Yousef Dasouki and I am a 2022 graduate from Edmonton Alberta.
My mother and father have been amazing role models and for as long as I can remember, they have always reminded me that my dreams are always within reach and that anything desired in life is attainable if you put in 100%. I do feel most of my success academically and athletically is due to my hard work, perseverance and determination.
From soccer, I have learned the art of discipline where my limits and goals are always on the forefront of what I do. Soccer has taught me a lot about respect; for coaches, my parents, elders, and my teammates. Soccer helped me become resilient and I have learned that if I fall down I will get back up and try again. One of the biggest things soccer has really taught me is sacrifice. I have learned to sacrifice things in the short term for long term gain is a motto I think about regularly. Luckily I have been blessed with an amazing circle of understanding friends who respect my goals and passions.I like helping friends with their homework or just being a sounding board, assisting my family with household chores and donating to charity or volunteering for a good cause all bring me great joy and fulfillment. I hope to be able to donate, volunteer and help my friends and family more when I am a grown working adult.
Academically, I have always been a determined and studious individual. I am interested in the area of law and business. Both have appealed to me since a young age. Being a lawyer is what I have wanted to be since I was 7 years old and at the age of 12, a mentor of mine gifted me the Criminal Code of Conduct. Well, after reading that (not understanding much or any of it at the time), I was truly intrigued. I knew that the law was more I wanted to learn about. I too have a strong passion for business. I feel there is something extremely satisfying about creating a life based around flexibility, financial success and creating our own career opportunities. I am very excited for this year(grade 12) where I can begin to really explore more opportunities and push myself to do wonderful things in preparation for university
I have pushed myself hard through individual and team training the past few years and currently play at a U17 Tier 1 Club level. This has been challenging due to size, speed and strength of other players, but with private academy training, strength training, a good diet and a healthy sleep cycle, I have been able to play successfully at this level.
I was hesitant in going into the AP program at my high school, but I owed it to myself to try. I’ve completed my grade 11th year of high school making the honor roll for 2 consecutive years. Something I thought was just too far from reach, I pushed myself, I studied daily, and asked for feedback on every assignment and test to see if there was anywhere for me to improve and I believe it’s been instrumental in my success
I will be open to all opportunities and the best possible fit for me academically and athletically. It is very important for me to attend a reputable University/College in Canada or the USA that strives on a positive academic life for their students and has a great soccer program with second to none leadership.
