Joshua Newlin '19 Recruiting Profile

    My goal in college is to get a bachelor's or masters degree in Exercise Science, and to be a starter on the highest level soccer team on campus.  I have been playing soccer since I was 8, and it has always been my dream to be able to play college soccer.  It would be an incredible privilege to play the sport I love at the collegiate level.  

    Academics are very important to me.  I have taken several honors math classes, as well as 2 AP classes.  In addition, I have an unweighted GPA of 3.75, a 1350 SAT score, and an ACT score of 29.  I have gotten Honor Roll every semester of high school, and in fall of 2016 I won Highest Honors Honor Roll.  I also got Principal’s List Honor Roll in spring 2018.  In February 2017, I was selected for the National Academy of Future Scientists and Technologists Award of Excellence.           

    I am a committed, hard working player and I am very passionate about soccer.  Whether I am at a team practice, individual training, or competing in a game, I will always give 100% effort and I enjoy all of it, whether we win or lose.  I love to use my strength, speed, and my head to play physically and I leave everything I've got out on the field.  When I'm on the field, I am very vocal and try to be a leader to my team.

    Outside of soccer, I also aspire to be a leader.  I have enjoyed volunteering at the local food bank and a nearby homeless shelter.  I want to make a difference in people's lives by helping to train them using my exercise science degree.  The career I want to pursue is a strength and conditioning coach or a soccer coach.  I love working out and playing soccer, as well as helping other people and teaching them new things, so either of these would be a dream job for me.
