Personal Statement
My name is Fitsum Shimelis, i live in Vancouver, British Columbia. I started my football journey when i was 5, with a local youth soccer club and i fell in love with this beautiful game. As i have continued to play for 11 years, I want to attend a college qhere i can push myself in the classroom and on the field. I am a hardworking, persistent, committed, and disciplined player/student.

- ActivitiesIn school, I’m the president of both the Finance Club and the Cancer Awareness Club. For Finance, I’m responsible for organizing meetings, managing club funds, and leading investment discussions, even though I’m still learning a lot myself. In the Cancer Awareness Club, I run events to raise money and spread knowledge about cancer, like hosting fun fundraisers and collaborating with local organizations. It’s been a great way to build leadership skills and give back. Outside of school, I stay busy too. I’m really active in my church, where I’ve served as the lead deacon and even taught prayers to younger members to help them become deacons too. I’ve been a soccer coach for KLMS youth teams, guiding kids on the field and teaching them teamwork and skills—both in soccer and in life. Volunteering is also a big part of what I do. I give my time at the local community center, helping out wherever needed, and I’m also involved in leadership and mentorship programs at school. Those programs have helped me develop my communication skills and learn how to guide others through challenges.
