I first started playing soccer at the age of 5 as a recreational player for my hometown team because I loved nothing more than kicking a ball. I then went on to play soccer for the local club team at age 8 and stayed with the team for 6 years. For the last four years I have played as the full time goalkeeper for competitive club teams, such as San Diego Surf and LA Galaxy San Diego playing in the top league flights.
I have been a goalkeeper since age 10, I was the chubby kid on the team back then and that’s where the coach thought I could be the most help to the team. Turns out I have really great eye-hand coordination and can make the difficult stops. I have worked hard to develop as a goalkeeper, and believe my strengths lie in my reaction speed to make the saves at close range, my ability to cut off the angles making it difficult for forwards to score, my foot skills when balls are passed back to reset the offense, and my ability to hit a target player with my goal kicks. This year I am working on my leadership role on the team, and controlling the back line effectively.
As seriously as I take my soccer, I am also a dedicated student with a 3.8 GPA. I am currently enrolled in several AP classes and have recently taken the ACT for the first time, scoring a 29. I am interesting in pursuing a college degree in either the sciences or business.
When I’m not playing soccer or studying for my classes, I spend my free time training with my strength and conditioning coach, playing FIFA on line, relaxing with my family and volunteering with Hands-on- San Diego a local program to help non-profit organizations in support of the homeless, school gardens, and animal rescue programs.
I believe I process the dedication and discipline required to be a successful student athlete at the college level. I can’t imagine not continuing to grow as a student and as a goalkeeper, and want nothing more than the opportunity to do both.
