Joseph Bell '20 Recruiting Profile

I wanted to add to my personal statement, on December 31st my younger brother was diagnosed with Stage IV Cancer, it hit me very hard because he looks up to me.  I want to be successful so he can achieve more than I ever have.  It has been a very difficult 4 1/2 months but my brother is strong and he is winning his battle.  He shows me what it really means to fight and be strong.  I am looking forward to show colleges my abilities, to be a great teammate, and to show the world that I will never give up regardless of what challenges are ahead of me.

This year has been a trying time for my club team this year, we have had to deal with injuries and low number of players eligible for our games. Because of that my coach has asked me to play in positions that are not my normal spot but it was for the benefit of the team. During several games I have played CB, CM, and even striker. Throughout my career my versatility has allowed me to play various positions on the field during a game. For my high school years I have played LM and Striker and my club career this versatility has allowed me to understand various positions and start various positions. I want to be a team player and play the position that my coach needs to be in in order to give us the best chance of winning.

     Since I was eight years old I have been playing competitive club soccer and new it was the only sport I wanted to play.  When I was 12 years old I traveled to England with my team to play soccer it was an experience I will never forget.  I had a chance to play against some aggressive and passionate players.  My goal after high school is to play soccer in college while studying history. For has long as I could remember I also loved reading and talking to people about history.   I feel playing club and high school soccer has made me a respectful and well disciplined person. I use to struggle with staying calm during a game or taking a test.  I feel my teammates, coaches and teachers have taught me a lot to overcome this struggle.  Gaining my confidence has helped me become a team leader to my teammates on and off the field.  I am a player that knows how important hard work and dedication is to make a team work together.  I would be a good candidate for the team because I am ready to step into any position on the field to help my team succeed.
