Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is William Sach, and I am about to enter my sophomore year at La Jolla Country Day School in San Diego. From as young as I can remember I have wanted to play soccer at the highest level. I was born near London in the UK and my local team there is Tottenham Hotspur, a team I support until this day. At the age of four I moved to the US and now hold dual citizenship of both nations.
Since moving to the US, I have played competitive soccer for the past 12 years and am currently playing for Nomads Soccer Club in San Diego in the MLS Next franchise (previously Developmental Academy). This past season we finished the regular season atop of the Southwest region and went to the playoffs in Frisco, Dallas on the 24th of June as the number one seed. In addition, I also play high school soccer for La Jolla Country Day High School where I am one of only four freshmen to make the varsity team. Please check out my highlights video!
Soccer Highlights:
In both teams I have played a variety of positions, either as forward, attacking midfielder or where occasion warrants, defensive midfielder. I am not the fastest player on the field so my touch and pass must be good. Playing as the forward, I am often the most advanced player, and my role is to receive the ball in pressured situations, hold off the defender, play the ball either forward to a winger, or backwards and spin to break the line.
I am an extremely dedicated athlete on and off the field. On the field I train six times a week between the two teams with the aim of developing my physical attributes, skills and understanding of our great game. Off the field I make sure my nutrition is good and my mental health is well looked after with family and friend time. School is obviously a critical component and I work hard to balance my sports and school time.
This year I took Geometry Honors, Accelerated Physics, Spanish II, Design Thinking and Open Entrepreneurship, World Culture, Contemporary Problems, and English I. Throughout the year, I did my best to balance my sports and academic life. I kept my grades up through hard study, late nights and the occasional cup of tea. This year I ended with a weighted GPA of 3.7 with 3 As and 3 Bs. It was incredibly challenging to keep up with work sometimes, but I managed to keep good grades as I know they are critical to my goal of playing soccer at a collegiate level.
