My name is Steven Rodriguez-Portillo, I play for Desert Mirage High School, currently playing in the California Southern Section. In my first three years of high school I have been able to accomplish many achievements, both individual and collectively. I have been a Varsity Team Captain since my freshmen year, I have been named All-Conference First Team twice as well as All-Conference Defensive MVP two times as well, my Freshman and Junior year. Sophomore year, I earned All- Conference Second Team. We also managed to capture a CIF-SS D4 Championship in 2017-2018, and reached the Semifinals in the Regional tournament. Alongside the team, we have won all three conference titles, only losing one conference game in three years. We led the school to an impressive 42 consecutive conference wins in a row, setting a new record in Southern California.
What makes me different from the rest is just how badly I want an opportunity to play college soccer, and attend a great college. Playing soccer has been what I love doing the most ever since I was five years old. Soccer has taken over my life and has also help me grow and become an overall better person. It has gave me leadership skills and it has showed me that discipline along with having a good work ethic can take you a very long way.
Both my parents have pushed me to work excessively hard not only on the field but in everything that I do which most importantly includes school. I will always give my all, I am the type of player that fights till the end, the one that finds that drive within them and transmits it to the rest of the team. I aspire to win a second CIF-SS championship and Regional State title my senior year in high school. As far as academics go, I am going to keep a gpa at a 3.8 or higher, be involved in as many extracurricular activities as possible, and create special bonds with my teachers and counselors.
