Hello, my name is Jason Rodriguez and I am a wing back for the Southeast Bulloch High School men's Varsity team. I have also played in Atlanta Fire United's select program since middle school. I started playing soccer in 5th grade at a recreational level to get myself adjusted to the sport. After 2 years of rec, my family and I made the decision to tryout for AFU's select teams. After a week of tryouts, I would make coach Greg Hoover's Bronze select team. Ever since then, I began to move up the ranks each season and was blessed to be able to learn and play along great players during the process.
My final year at the club was my sophomore year of high school, Collins Hill High School, as a part of the U17 Elite and Silver squad, playing under coaches Greg Hoover and Sal Martelli. I played my fall 2018 season being brought up to play Elite tournaments with Coach Hoover while also playing for the silver squad, due to me missing that year's tryouts. That season would be the last season I would play under AFU; for I was told that I'd be moving to Statesboro, GA due to problematic family matters. This halted my 2019 spring and fall seasons that I was planned on playing.
After the move I began to play football for my new school and would skip fall soccer. This gave me a brief couple of months to reflect what I wanted to do with my soccer career after the move. My goal since I joined select was to play at the collegiate level at a top program. I've been shriving for greatness and have been looking to improve myself on and off the field to prepare myself for the jump in the NCAA. To continue my work and dedication I joined the men's varsity soccer team at Southeast Bulloch High School. There I earned my starting spot come game one and grew as a better defender and leader. My team and I led us to third place in our region, leading us forward to the playoffs. However, as everyone already knows, spring sports in Georgia were shut down due to the pandemic and our season was cut short.
This left me angry and sad, knowing that if we were able to play the whole season I'd have a better shot at getting more college's attention before my senior season. Although it was heartbreaking that our season was cancelled, I am still looking for ways to improve upon my craft. My goal and dream has always been to attend college playing the sport that I love and grew up with. I want to come in and change a program no matter what the record or location, I will do my part on what needs to be done to win. This upcoming 2021 season my plan is to achieve these goals and turn them into reality.
