Matthew Hodgson '21 Recruiting Profile

My name is Matthew Hodgson,  I got the fortunate opportunity to join Premier Soccer Academy in 2014 where my journey to work with professional coaches started. Premier athletes and coaches take the game of soccer very seriously. Premier Academy has truly opened my eyes to my future in soccer. I was a recreational club player until I was introduced to Shawn Agnew (Head Director & Coach of Premier Academy).  He has massively enhanced my performance in all areas. 

At the academy, the coaching staff constructs their training sessions into three important pillars: Competence, Character, and Cognition where the curriculum (Spanish) is rondos, positional exercises and match play.  

As I move into my Junior year of High School, I have realized my education is just as important as my athletic development. I currently have a strong 3.8 GPA, and would love to major in Human Kinetics / Sport Science.  Athletically, I am seeking a team that can challenge me on and off the field. I love to play possession based soccer where the midfield is used  regularly in order to create attacking plays, create space and manage the ball throughout the game. I am type of player that uses 1-3 touches in the majority of my plays. I believe in moving the ball fast and to change my position to create a new passing line and angle to support the ball. I want to play with a team that believes in the same game principles, have a winning attitude and are consistently hungry to learn, grow as a team and always wanting to improve. I am an asset to any team of the many characteristics that have been instilled in me at a young age: resilient, self reflective, hard working, coachable, humility, respectful, love for the game and the desire to keep learning & improving.
