I know most coaches are wondering what does football (soccer) really mean to me?
Let me start by introducing myself a little bit. Hello, my name is Basem Aboul Hosn and for those who don't know me soccer is my thing. I was born and raised in Dubai, UAE. I first went to the International School of Choueifat, but later on moved to American School of Dubai because I wanted to have more opportunities to play advance soccer. I started playing soccer at the age of 9 which is not a really young age, but that is because I used to play basketball. I first started out as a goal keeper, but as I progressed I grew to become a solid defender or defensive midfielder. I now personally, know how to play every position perfectly (I mean that I know what to expect from these position) because I played every single soccer position before.
Now for some more fun stuff about my skills in soccer. So incase you don't know I am left footed. I am really good with ball control and I am really fast with the ball. I have a lot of strength and I am not afraid to collide with any player no matter their size. People in my school call me the bull or the hulk for a reason and this is why the mainly put me as a defensive mid / defender. I also have a really good pace especially for the long balls. Additionally, I have really good shot power that sometimes, during lunch time, goalies runaway from the goal because they don't want to get hurt from my shots. I once shot really hard that I ended up fracturing my friends wrist who is a really good goal keeper. Finally, I am really good with free kicks. Last year I scored a free kick from 35 yards away.
Most of you coaches might be wondering about my game play. In my school, I'm known as the team player or play maker because I'm known to create all the plays or assists that lead to a goal. Last year I made an assist from the defence all the way to our striker and he had a 1 on 1 against the goalie. As I said above I have very good power shots as well, which is why I managed to score a lot of goals from outside the box this season. I'm also the kind of player who shadows my assigned person and force him to use his weak foot when attacking. Since I have a lot of strength, I manage to take the ball easily from my opponents. In game time, I also have good ball control so I can receive it in the air or on the ground with no struggles and I make sure to play smart passes. Finally, I am the type of player who is good in creating chances that the opposition doesn't expect.
I personally support Zinedine Zidane and I play similar to the way he plays. I believe soccer is not only about skill, but it's about being smart. Those players like Zidane, Pirlo, Beckham and many more had one thing in common and that was knowledge of the sport. From knowledge comes the skill and using both of these attributes will help you become an outstanding soccer player.
