Personal Statement

Born in the USA, I am of a mix of Asian and Western Backgrounds and have grown up in Australia with a family that has encouraged me to strive to be the best in all aspects of my life through sports, academics, extracurricular activities, and leadership roles. I have also played Water Polo and Tennis but currently train in Athletics during the summer off-season.

I am currently a Left-footed, Left Fullback/Wingback (Outside back) but have played in numerous different positions and understand all aspects of the game. I believe that my greatest strengths are leadership, coachability and adaptability, both on the pitch and in everyday life. I am to play the highest level of college football that I can achieve and I am wanting to study medicine in the future.

Football (soccer) has been an important part of my journey and I have played for numerous teams across Sydney. From when I was young I’ve trained with Goal Soccer Academy, then moved to Easts Football Club and then progressed to Sydney University Football whilst training with the Nick Rizzo International Football Academy. I currently play for the 1st XI team for St Joseph’s College for two years in which we have won back-to-back Football Premierships in the AAGPS (The Athletic Association of the Great Public Schools of New South Wales) competition. I have recently been selected to represent the U16’s AAGPS All-Schools squad at the New South Wales CIS Championship Tournament in which we placed 2nd overall.

As well as Football, I aim to develop my musical ability and contribution as a leader and in extra-curricular roles. I have played the saxophone and piano but currently play the Cello and aiming towards sitting my Grade 7 AMEB exam this year.  I have participated in numerous leadership opportunities including, the Outdoor Leadership program, Marist Community Service programs and Leadership Team, and Religious Leadership Team. I am also committed to numerous extracurricular programs such as the Duke of Edinburgh, Ethics Olympiad, St Joseph’s Aged Care program, and various Music Orchestras.

Thank you,

Jonathan L
