Personal Statement

My name is Mbuso Nakana, I am the most hard working athlete you will ever come across. I am a teenage boy that was born in South Africa, whose passion was always football. I began playing football at the age of seven. My brother first opened my eyes to this sport that I rapidly fell in love with. I always watched football (whether it was Premier league, Laliga, Bundesliga, Champions League, etc) on the school TV's whenever I got the chance to, which always made me feel a sense of happiness inside me. Whenever the channel would change to football specifically, it always caught my eye. My older brother always encouraged me and wanted to see me achieve big things, espciallly my mother. She is the reason why I am able to live my life gracefully. I decided to join my first team in 2014, which was Sporting FC. I had personal coaches, that trained me to have incredible game knowledge and fitness, they improved my technical ability too and as well as my perspective of the game. They always told me that I never had a bad game growing up because of my nonstop effort. I always follow instructions, take the lead when necessary, support teammates, communicate effectively, help my team in the best way possible and listen to my coaches and captains on and off the pitch. In my mind I am always the best and I always make sure to put my all into training and matches, because I am my own character and each day is always an opportunity for me to keep pushing myself. Growing up I started as a striker/false nine, scoring goals and giving out assists when I could (However I adapted to being able to play anywhere except as a goal keeper and centre back) I have now progressed as a midfielder. football gave me the mindset to work hard everyday, no matter the time or place, because I always had that drive in me to strive for success. I always was very competitive and still am because I always know that if I want to stand out and be the best, then I have to work harder than everybody else, although I can be quiet at times, I had to change my habits, my body shape and mentality because my goal is to play professional football in the best leagues in Europe, and be the best player ever. I currently Endeavours Education (a Cambridge school). I have achieved certificates and awards from studying at my previous schools. My academic goals revolve around me getting accepted into a high level colleges in the United States, United Kingdom, Europe and any other international programs. I want to continue studying Biology and Chemistry because I am quite strong in those majors, have always been, and find them very enjoying. I mainly prioritise on completing any academic tasks, rather than attending any parties or events (I don't have many friends/peers). Although football and school are difficult to balance at times, i always manage to finish my work so that I have time to train and rest. Consistency is key for me because even through I have ups and downs, I always increase my work ethic and never give up. I put my all into this sport because it is my passion and I know that my discipline will get me far. I am able to adapt quickly no matter the difficulty, even if it takes time. I will definitely adapt and do my part academically and athletically. There are many people who look up to me and are believing in me. I know I will achieve my dream and make them proud.
