Rafael Oliveira '18 Recruiting Profile

My name is Rafael Tavares de Oliveira, I am a Brazilian student and for a long time I have been striving to attend an American university as a soccer player. That dream began when I was an exchange student for one year in Ohio, because it was there, at the age of 16, that I had my first true experience with the athlete’s life. If I say true experience, considering that here in Brazil I have always practiced sports, is because none of that can be compared with the encouragement and attention I received from the Americans to overcome my challenges as an athlete. In my senior year at Indian Valley High School, I played football as well as fought wrestling, and although I had never practiced wrestling before, I still won the revelation athlete award of the season. From then on, it became clear to me how strong sport’s culture is in the United States. It was also during my exchange period that I got to know some American colleges and could observe first-hand how developed their structure is in order to ensure that their athletes can achieve the best of their performance. With that in mind, I began to do further research American colleges.

As a soccer athlete, I play for the Next Level company, which helps soccer players to get a scholarship in the United States. In this this company, I was the first defender ever to be elected the highlight of the round, as shown in the image attached to email. The fact I won this title worked as fuel to encourage me to give more of myself in every soccer practice. Therefore, training after training I can feel my evolution in the field.

I play in the position of defender. I have height of 6.3 ft that allows me to be a strong player in the air, helping the defense with high balls in the area. Also, I am fast which allows me to track any player at speed.
