Personal Statement

My name is Kian Nathan Smith.  I was born in Okinawa Japan where I currently live now. From kindergarten to 3rd grade I attended Japanese school . I speak both Japanese and English. At the start of my 3rd grade year I switched to American school. English is my second language. Currently I attend Kadena High School as a Junior. I started playing soccer at the age of 8 when I tried out for my Japanese school team FC Mekaru.  I immediately fell in love with this sport and wanted to get better at it to impress my coaches. I did that for about 2 years.  After I started attending school on the American side,  I did the Military youth soccer program for 4 years. I've also attended a local futsol club for about 2 years to sharpen and hone my ball handling skills. Before the start of my freshman year of high school, I attended the Real Madrid Futbol Academy which recently opened their second school on island. I did that for a year in the U-15 age bracket.  Attending all these different schools and clubs my style of play is well diverse. I've pretty much played every position just to know what each role entails.

Going into my freshman year of high school I knew I wanted to make varsity which I accomplished with a positive attitude and hard work on the pitch. There were only 3 freshman that made the team this year. I placed 3rd behind 2 seniors in the final stats of the season. I've learned a lot this year playing and talking with my teammates about how grades and commitment to your studies are key to staying active on the team and going further in life with goals that are reachable. Being able to attend college as a student and soccer athlete will only further my goal in becoming the person I know I can be. My profile highlights all that I've accomplished so far on this journey in the sport I love, and I plan on accomplishing even more before all is said and done.

Thank you

Kian Nathan Smith
