I AM NUMBER 13
Number 13, that's the jersey you'll find me in. It is not just the jersey I wear, but also a symbol of who I am. It reminds me of the thirteen times I have failed or never succeeded; but also reminds me of the thirteen other times I will try until I am successful. That's me. A "tryer". My life's journey was not the best, but I am indeed grateful for every moment of it as it made me who I am today. I faced numerous hardships due to the absence of parental advice and support. I basically raised myself. My daily tasks varied from finding a way to school, lunch to eat to even dinner for my brothers and I. It was stressful, but there was something about a soccer field that kept me sane and grounded.
I always say, "I learn alot about life with a ball at my feet." There will be obstacles; some will make you fall, others you can work around, but you should never yield until you reach your goal because the game is always on you. I channeled all my anger & stress into my favourite sport and I achieved abundantly. For my situation, I did great for myself and for my brothers as they emulate me. I was able to graduate from high school passing all my subjects I took, I have traveled to Holland, Germany and Belgium as apart of a soccer trial and I have helped my team to be both Manning Cup & Walker Cup Champions and Finalists in their respective years. I have also been the leading goal scorer of numerous tournaments.
Apart from soccer, I have a great affinity for business. Persuasion is my second language. It was always me my fellow schoolmates depended on to sell items for fundraisers; from a ticket to a cupcake. As such I aspire to pursue a degree in the field of Business while playing collegiate soccer and some volunteerism in the mix. It is adamant that I am successful as I want to be able to help other young boys, who may have their dreams hindered by lack of money or support, have a shot at a greater future. That is my Goal. However I will only be able to attain this with a sports scholarship due to lack of funding. I deserve it, I know i do. I guess what stands out most about me is just as much I will work hard for myself to win, is just as how I will ensure those around me do as well and that is what makes a great teammate; determination, aspirations and the thirst for better. That's me, Andre Wilson #13.
