Personal Statement
My name is Hieu (William) Le, and I am a rising Junior at Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, MD.
I have always desired to play soccer at the highest level -- I would say this has been a dream of mine since I first laid eyes on a USMNT game on TV. My mere fascination with soccer quickly became a serious passion of mine, as I worked tirelessly to improve my vision, speed, technique, and leadership to compete in increasingly demanding environments. I am always looking for opportunities to take my game to the next level--whether it involves more minutes on the practice field or by simply refreshing my mindset.
When I was selected to go to the Mare Nostrum Cup in Spain, I took advantage immediately. Kaptiva Sports Academy was partnered with F.C. Barcelona, a team that has inspired me for years. We played against tough teams in Spain and Ireland, allowing me to grow my capabilities in more ways than one. I played under different coaching techniques and styles of play, preparing me to adapt to any unfamiliar situation; my own style of play became much more versatile.
In addition to being a versatile and hard-working player, I am very disciplined in balancing both soccer and studies. As the youngest player on my school’s varsity team, I had to prove myself at every practice. I did this while also adapting to my first year in high school, where I studied hard to achieve high grades with the aim at the computer science major at college. Balancing the school routine with competitive and high-speed practices with my club team, Laurel Lions, remains my utmost priority. I would never want to jeopardize my position to play at the highest level, on a team that values education as well as great soccer. I have since taken that mindset to grow into a strong leader, one that maintains a sharp focus to help the team succeed.
Soccer has always given me an outlet. For 90 minutes, I will give it my all in order to ensure the best result for my team. With that being said, I know that I will continue to grow and contribute to your team. I am ready and excited for the next step in this process. Thank you for your time!
