Hello, my name is Christian Somerville, and I am in my senior year at Maurice J McDonough. I am looking for a college that has both an excellent academic and athletic program.
I am graduating high school in 2022 and I'm a 5’9’’ center-back playing for the Future Monarchs, a travel soccer team in Prince George’s County Maryland. At the beginning of my sophomore year, I was named junior varsity captain for McDonough High School. After the pre-season, I was moved to varsity and secured a starting position at center back. In my senior year, I was named captain of the varsity team at my high school. At the conclusion of my senior year, I was named 1st team All-Conference for the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference.
I have a lot of leadership experience between soccer and other sports I’ve played in the past. In 2016, as a black belt in karate, I taught multiple classes for younger students at Keith Elkins Martial Arts & Kickboxing studio. Beginning in 2017 I was team captain for the Waldorf 04 travel team up until the spring of 2021. In the 3 years of my high school experience playing soccer, (cancelation of one season due to COVID-19) I have been the team captain for 2 of the 3 years I played. I am currently an active member of the Varsity Club at my school which consists of past varsity players from every sport that work together to make our environment and school a better place.
Through high school, I have always taken all honors classes and continued to perform well in all classes. I am currently enrolled at Robert D. Stethem, an educational center where I take classes for Interactive media as well as my normal classes at my home school Maurice J. McDonough. My future college will be one where I can continue to play highly competitive soccer while earning a degree in Photography and Graphic Design.
