For many years, it has been my dream to play soccer in college and to contribute to my team. I started playing rec soccer at age 5 and by the second grade began playing on our town team. Although I enjoyed playing on the field, when our keeper suffered a concussion I was asked to take his place in net. That was in the winter of 2016. Well, that's when I became a keeper. My coaches appreciated my good hands, tough attitude, and my loud voice! Two years later I was asked to join an elite soccer team, B07 NEFC Elite out of Rhode Island. Since that time I have played with a few different clubs, town teams, and school teams. I have sought out training opportunities whenever possible. And finally, my teams and I achieved many successes in tournament play.
The first thing people notice about me with respect to my position is my height, and not in a good way. You see, I am considered undersized in the soccer realm. This means I am constantly having to prove to the doubters that I am a very good keeper. Coaches often act surprised when they see what I can do, as well as opposing players and spectators. I may have a bit of a chip on my shoulder but I channel it into becoming the best I can be! I play every game with my head and my heart. I continue to communicate with my teammates throughout the game and I play the position with no fear. My dedication to the game is unwavering.
Enrolling in our regional technical High School has proven to be a great decision for me academically. I was able to explore different trades and drafting has been an excellent match for me. I am interested in pursuing a career path in Engineering, specifically Industrial Engineering. However, I am also interested in Data Science or other Math related areas of study.
As I continue to set my sights on college and a career, I keep busy with my involvement in sports: soccer, baseball, and track. I play guitar and I am in an All Star Band that has been able to perform at various venues including Graceland Theater in Memphis, Tennessee. I became an official Soccer Referee last spring and I intend to continue officiating at games this year. Finally, my first summer job last year was working with artists to beautify our city and we completed murals among other projects.
My dream to play at the next level continues even when faced with a few obstacles. If your college and soccer program happen to be a match to my interests and abilities, I guarantee that I will not disappoint you!
Sincerely yours,
Gabriel Frost
