Personal Statement
I am a senior welding major at Montachusett Regional Technical High School in Massachusetts. I have played soccer all of my life, first in Ethiopia, then for Fitchburg Youth Soccer, District Select, Hampshire Hills, Global Premier Soccer Club and at camps at WPI and NE Revolution. I am also the captain of my high school team, where I finished the season ranked first in Central Massachusetts.
Fitchburg Youth Soccer has been a big part of my life. I not only play for them, but I coach a grade 1/2 team and a grade 7/8 team. I referee for Fitchburg Youth Soccer, Nashoba Valley Youth Soccer and US Officials. I also serve as a mentor for new referees. The coaches at FYS, who also coached at Hampshire Hills, know be better than anyone and I hope you'll talk with them.
My high school coach, Brad Pellitier, is also supportive of my college aspirations and has offered to serve as a reference for me.
All of my coaches have described me as "very fast, coachable, hard working and generous, in that I play my positions well and try to help others play their positions well." I like to give other players opportunities to score and get recognition.
I take soccer seriously but also have a lot of fun doing it. I think being part of a team is really important to a person's well being. It makes you lead a healthy life, both mentally and physically, and helps you make connections with other people. It also helps me build my leadership skills, as I have served as captain on most of the teams for which I have played. I have gained confidence, strong communication skills and an ability to get everyone psyched up to work together and do their best.
I work just as hard in school as I do with soccer. Education is important to me.
