Personal Statement
Making my freshman soccer team was a defining moment for me. I had broken my hand playing basketball a week before soccer tryouts. I had worked hard all Summer to be ready and was devastated by the injury. I was determined to still tryout, however. My doctor and the team trainer gave me the go ahead as long as the cast was bubble wrapped. It (the arm) was awkward, bulky and hot but I persevered and made the team.
However, I feel I grew the most as a student-athlete my sophomore year when I didn't make the varsity team. That experience helped me grow as a person and lead me to focus even more on physical fitness and becoming the best soccer player I could possibly be.
I was fortunate enough to make the varsity team my junior year. It was amazing seeing the fruits of my hard work paying off again. our team went to the conference finals and I was named an all star and won the golden boot award.
I understand the lessons of loss, the value of teamwork, commitment, sacrifice and will always give 100 percent to this game. I'm looking for a program that will be a good fit for me academically and athletically. I believe I not only have the talent to compete for a college team, but the character and work-ethic, to make an immediate impact on the pitch.
