Personal Statement

Background:

I have been accepted for a post-grad year at Worcester Academy (MA), class of 2017, so that I can improve my academic skills while playing in a great soccer program in the New England Prep School Athletic Conference.

I was adopted from a Russian orphanage in Middle School.  I now have a nice family life.  School has been a challenge.  In Russia, I only had three years of orphanage education.  I graduated from Watertown High (MA) in June 2016.   I finally made the Honor Roll at end of senior year.  Soccer futbol is an important part of my life.  I am very interested in a. continuing to improve my English fluency (I still have full Russian comprehension and hope to refresh my native language skills); b. exploring business related programs; and c. continuing to play in a good program.

Player profile:

Roman played for a New England Rush (1996-1997) club team that went undefeated in the US Region I champions league in the spring 2015 season.  The NE Rush club, originally organized as a new U15 "Middlesex County Falcons" club , won two promotions and four Massachusetts Premier League championships (MAPLE Divisions III, II, I, and I) in four seasons and established a national Rush soccer affiliation.  Roman played meaningful minutes at every position on the field and finished tied for third on the team with nine goals in 2015.  Roman played for a NE Rush 1997-1998 team spring 2016, which also won a MAPLE title, and tied for the team lead in goals with 14.

Roman Davis was senior co-captain and two-time All-Middlesex on the Watertown High (MA) soccer team.   He played on two North Sectional and one Eastern Mass championship teams at Watertown.  He returned from a torn MCL to play the last three games of his senior year.  As a Watertown High (MA) junior, Roman played defense, midfield and forward in 2014.  Roman led the Middlesex League Freedom division in goals with 14 and was tied for the overall Middlesex League lead in goals on Oct 9 when he became the emergency goalie after two underclassmen succumbed to broken wrists and the starting senior goalie was diagnosed with lymphoma.  He shifted back to defense to support an underclassman goalie, but still finished second in the overall league scoring including five game winning goals (Arlington, Burlington, Woburn, Melrose, and a state sectional win over Wakefield) and one game tying goal (Burlington).  In 2013, as a sophomore defender, he made the key save at the goal line as the clock was running down in the North Sectional championship win over Bedford after scoring the winning goal against Pentucket in the quarterfinal round. Roman was a full season varsity contributor/letterman as a freshman and then a three year starter.

His NE Rush and Watertown teams reflect the diverse urban population around Boston.  Roman’s teammates have come from Brazil, Haiti, Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina, Algeria, Uganda, Eritrea, Cameroon, France, Ukraine, Armenia, Syria, and Turkey.

As a rising junior Roman was the top tournament scorer in the 2014 Bay State games in a senior-dominated field that included Academy, ODP and club veterans. `Adopted from a Russian orphanage at 12, he played on a Far East regional elementary school championship team for PS 16 Birobidjan.  He is a citizen of the United States as well as a citizen of the Russian Federation.
