Ben Rand '18 Recruiting Profile

I am currently a freshman at Davenport University. I have decided to transfer at the end of this year. I am studying Marketing here and currently have a 3.45 GPA. I attended Mattawan High School where I ended with a 2.9 GPA and scored a 1090 on the SAT.

In High School, I was a 2 year varsity player. In my time on JV I started every single game I was fit to play. During these 2 years, we solidified ourselves as the best JV team in southwest Michigan winning every game as a freshman, and losing only 2 games as a sophomore. During my Junior year, I played a role coming off of the bench In the best season in school history in which we won the Division 2 Men's State Championship. The summer prior to my senior year I was forced to get  a knee surgery to remove a torn portion of my meniscus. This set me back for the first third of the season. Because of this, I was forced to play another role off the bench in a tough season for the team where we were kicked out of the Division tournament in the first round.

I played my club soccer at The FC Elite where I earned the captains arm band in my second year with the club and ran with it throughout my career at the club. I helped lead the team from an average Classic 1 side prior to me coming to a title contending Premier 1 team before the age group switch. As a team, we reached the clubs first State Cup knockout round in the first time trying. Here we were unfortunately beaten by the eventual champions. I also began my coaching career where I was an assistant coach for the 04 team and helped with all of the other teams.

During my first season at Davenport, I learned a lot about the level of play at the college level. I played a role coming off of the bench again on the reserve team where I was stuck behind first team players coming down to play with the reserves.
